New Edge Networks' RBA Gaining Merchant Appeal, Sales Momentum
VANCOUVER, Wash. (June 6, 2005) New Edge Networks said today its newly formed Retail Broadband Alliance has produced more than $1 million in contracts from the sale of broadband networks to merchant businesses. It also said it has pending sales proposals that represent more than $800,000 in monthly recurring revenue for networks powered by New Edge Networks.Retail Broadband Alliance member companies are generating additional revenue from referrals as well as their respective sales of hardware, software, and services used with broadband networks from New Edge Networks.
Formed last November, the Retail Broadband Alliance makes it easy for merchants to switch to broadband networks. More than 60 member companies currently work together to help businesses maximize value from high-speed networks or cost-justify the investment by eliminating other monthly communications costs.
Interest in the Retail Broadband Alliance has been stronger than we ever expected from both merchants and member companies, said Dan Moffat, president and CEO of New Edge Networks. Many small and midsize merchants with multiple locations dont have IT departments to hunt down, test, and implement technology solutions. So, the Retail Broadband Alliance represents hands and legs they can trust to achieve more with less.
Through the Retail Broadband Alliance, New Edge Networks established direct interconnections with four national credit card payment processors. These allow merchants to eliminate the cost of providing their own dedicated connections to their processor as well as the management overhead for managing them. Private connections also help avoid risks of going through the public Internet.
A convenience store chain in Arizona averted the cost of replacing its point-of-sale payment system when a Retail Broadband Alliance member company offered a solution that allows its system to work delivering transaction speeds 80 percent faster after switching to broadband.
A 120-store west coast retail chain said increased transaction speed from its network contributed to record sales because short lines attracted more shoppers.
A national restaurant chain offset the cost of its nationwide network by eliminating overnight shipments and daily fax transmissions of various business reports.
Generally, businesses can cost-justify an investment in broadband networks by eliminating as few as two telephone lines dedicated for card authorizations, computer access, fax machines, or private applications such as inventory management or daily sales polling.
Businesses with traditional wide area networks can get three times the speed for about half the cost of a new private broadband network from New Edge Networks. The increased speed and flexibility allows businesses to use the network for any combination of data, voice, and video services.
Hence, the Retail Broadband Alliance is rapidly gaining merchant appeal and sales momentum among member companies.
Member companies use the Retail Broadband Alliance to increase selling opportunities for their respective products and services or to win certification, Moffat said. It is a low-risk, high-reward, win-win situation for everyone involved, especially when demand for business broadband networking is growing.

Membership in the Retail Broadband Alliance is open to companies whose core products and services target the retail industry. Member companies must have a minimum of two years of operating history.
