Several factors played a role in the development of the market economy in the United States. Millions of acres of land belonging to Native Americans in the Old Northwest and Southeast were taken over by the federal government. Federal land policy, though often benefiting speculators more than individual homesteaders, certainly encouraged settlement. American agriculture experienced an unprecedented boom from the introduction of new staple crops, such as cotton, and productivity advancements in farm equipment. Although the United States remained overwhelmingly rural, the country experienced significant urban growth between 1815 and 1860. bad credit credit creditres

Removal of Native Americans.

The economic growth of the United States was achieved to a great degree at the expense of Native Americans. Despite giving up tens of thousands of acres through treaties, the tribes found the demand for land by settlers and speculators insatiable. Even the willingness of Native Americans to acculturate did not relieve the pressure on their land. The Cherokee one of the Five Civilized Tribes along with the Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Seminole were farmers and even owned slaves. They developed a written language in which books, tribal laws, and a constitution were published, and they were ready to press the case for their sovereignty in court. Even though the Supreme Court found in Worcester v. Georgia (1832) that the Cherokee were entitled to federal protection of their lands against state claims, President Andrew Jackson did not enforce the decision. bad consolidation credit debt

Jackson s solution to the land question was to resettle the tribes west of the Mississippi, which Congress authorized through the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Within a few years, the Creek, Choctaw, and Chickasaw had given up their lands in Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi and were moved to the Indian Territory in what is today Oklahoma. The Cherokee held out until 1838. Of the approximately fifteen thousand Cherokee who took the grueling trek from Georgia to the west, a route that became known as the Trail of Tears, a quarter died of disease and exposure. Some tribes resisted relocation. The Sauk and Fox were easily defeated by U.S. troops and militia forces in the Black Hawk War (1832), and the Seminoles fought a guerrilla action in Florida for seven years (1835-42). In the end, however, more than 200 million acres of Indian land passed into the control of the United States. bad company credit repair

Fungal Disease

Several fungi cause diseases in humans, some of them serious. For example, a disease of the lungs and spinal cord is caused by a fungus called Cryptococcus neoformans. This disease is serious in AIDS patients, and it is often spread in dust by currents. bad car credit loan

Another human pathogen is Candida albicans. This organism causes disease of the oral cavity (thrush), as well as yeast disease of the reproductive tract. Normally the disease is mild, but in persons with HIV infection, it can be serious. bad credit loan mortgage

Other human fungal diseases include ringworm and athlete s foot. Each is caused by fungi of various genera, and each is characterized by blisterlike regions on the skin or in the webs of toes or fingers. Fungal diseases of the lung tissues include histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, and coccidioidomycosis. auto bad credit loan

Fungi Defined

Fungi, together with bacteria and protists, are the major decomposers of organic matter on earth. Most fungi are saprobes, that is, they digest nonliving organic matter, such as wood, leaves, and dead animals. However, some fungi are parasites that attack living things and cause disease. Fungi cause many agricultural diseases as well as several human diseases. bad credit refinance

A unique physical structure and the method by which they obtain nutrients distinguish fungi from the other four kingdoms. Fungi secrete enzymes into the environment and break down organic matter, and then absorb the small nutrient particles through their cell membranes. This process is called extracellular digestion. bad credit mortgage second

Fungi are considered by many biologists to be multicellular organisms, and the body of a fungus consists primarily of cells joined in filaments. Each microscopic filament of a fungus is a hypha (the plural is hyphae). Hyphae may form a huge tangled interwoven network called a mycelium (the plural is mycelia). A mycelium is a visible structure. Fungi cells are unique because they possess a polysaccharide called chitin. In some cases, the cell walls also contain cellulose. Fungi live in environments that are generally acidic, and they prefer carbohydrate-rich foods. bad credit loan student

The lymphatic system is an extension of the circulatory system consisting of a fluid known as lymph, capillaries called lymphatic vessels, and structures called lymph nodes. Lymph is a watery fluid derived from plasma that has seeped out of the blood system capillaries and mingled with the cells. Rather than returning to the heart through the blood veins, this lymph enters a series of one-way lymphatic vessels that return the fluid to the circulatory system. Along the way, the ducts pass through hundreds of tiny, capsulelike bodies called lymph nodes. Located in the neck, armpits, and groin, the lymph nodes contain cells that filter the lymph and phagocytize foreign particles. bad card credit

The spleen is composed primarily of lymph node tissue. Lying close to the stomach, the spleen is also the site where red blood cells are destroyed. The spleen serves as a reserve blood supply for the body. bad credit financing

The lymph nodes are also the primary sites of the white blood cells called lymphocytes. The body has two kinds of lymphocytes: B-lymphocytes and T-lymphocytes. Both of these cells can be stimulated by microorganisms or other foreign materials called antigens in the blood. Antigens are picked up by phagocytes and lymph and delivered to the lymph nodes. Here, the lymphocytes are stimulated through a process called the immune response. bad credit home loan mortgage

Certain antigens, primarily those of fungi and protozoa, stimulate the T-lymphocytes. After stimulation, these lymphocytes leave the lymph nodes, enter the circulation, and proceed to the site where the antigens of microorganisms were detected. The T-lymphocytes interact with the microorganisms cell to cell and destroy them. This process is called cell-mediated immunity. bad credit loan people

B-lymphocytes are stimulated primarily by bacteria, viruses, and dissolved materials. On stimulation, the B-lymphocytes revert to large antibody-producing cells called plasma cells. The plasma cells synthesize proteins called antibodies, which are released into the circulation. The antibodies flow to the antigen site and destroy the microorganisms by chemically reacting with them in a highly specific manner. The reaction encourages phagocytosis, neutralizes many microbial toxins, eliminates the ability of microorganisms to move, and causes them to bind together in large masses. This process is called antibody-mediated immunity. After the microorganisms have been removed, the antibodies remain in the bloodstream and provide lifelong protection to the body. Thus, the body becomes immune to specific disease microorganisms. bad card credit credit people

Proportional Parts of Triangles

Consider Figure 1 of ABC with line l parallel to AC and intersecting the other two sides at D and E. Figure 1 Deriving the Side-Splitter Theorem. You can eventually prove that ABC DBE using the AA Similarity Postulate. Because the ratios of corresponding sides of similar polygons are equal, you can show that bad credit loan payday

Now use Property 4, the Denominator Subtracion Property. But AB DB = AD, and BC BE = CE ( Segment Addition Postulate). With this replacement, you get the following proportion. This leads to the following theorem. Theorem 57 (Side-Splitter Theorem): If a line is parallel to one side of a triangle and intersects the other two sides, it divides those sides proportionally. bad credit repair

Example 1:

Use Figure 2 to find x. Figure 2 Using the Side-Splitter Theorem. Because DE AC in ABC by Theorem 57, you get Example 2: Use Figure 3 to find x. Figure 3 Using similar triangles. Notice that TU, x, is not one of the segments on either side that TU intersects. This means that you cannot apply Theorem 57 to this situation. So what can you do? Recall that with TU QR, you can show that QRS TUS. Because the ratios of corresponding sides of similar triangles are equal, you get the following proportion. bad credit home loan uk

Carboxylic acids. Summarize the treatment of acids so far. A strong acid is virtually completely dissociated in aqueous solution, so the H+ concentration is essentially identical to the concentration of the solution for a 0.5 M solution of HCl, [H+] = 0.5 M. But because weak acids are only slightly dissociated, the concentrations of the ions in such acids must be calculated using the appropriate acid constant. 2nd bad credit mortgage

The sixth element in the periodic table, carbon, has the electron configuration 1 s2 2 s2 2 p2 and, thus, has 4 valence electrons in the unfilled orbitals of its second electron shell. To fill these orbitals to a stable set of 8 valence electrons, a single carbon atom may share electrons with 2, 3, or even 4 other atoms. No other element forms such strong bonds to as many other atoms as carbon does. Moreover, multiple carbon atoms readily link together with single, double, or triple bonds. These factors make element number 6 unique in the entire periodic table. The number of carbon-based compounds is many times greater than the total of all compounds lacking carbon. bad consolidation credit loan

All types of life are based on carbon compounds, so the study of the chemistry of carbon is called organic chemistry. You should realize, however, that organic compounds are not necessarily derived from plants and animals. Hundreds of thousands of them have been synthesized (built) in the laboratory from simpler substances. bad credit home loan new

Figure 1 is an illustration of propane, one of the simplest organic compounds: Figure 1 The structural formula of propane. This representation is called a structural formula, in which lines depict two electron bonds between atoms. Look at the propane structure and observe that the 4 bonds to each carbon complete its valence orbitals with 8 electrons. bad business credit loan

In the diagram of propane, the most important feature is the chain of 3 carbons. Such carbon-carbon bonding is what generates the incredible variety of organic compounds. This linkage of carbon atoms can continue without limit. Just as propane has 3 bonded carbons, you can imagine organic compounds with 4 or 5 or 500 carbons in an extensive chain or network. bad credit lender mortgage
