Norse men's soccer continues winning traditions
Date 9/13/2000 12:00 AM | Topic: SportsThe Luther men's soccer team has always kept a strong tradition of prosperous seasons, and in regards to current standings, this one appears to be holding to tradition.
The Norse opened the season on Sept. 1 at home with a win against Carthage 1-0, and the following Sunday they took another win at UW-Platteville 4-0.
On Sept. 5, the men played Bethel College in attempts to revenge their 7-2 loss from last year. Unfortunately, Luther came up short and lost 2-1.
In more recent play, the Millennium Classic was held at home last weekend, and the Norse were victorious, defeating Mount Saint Claire 4-0.
In the final on Sunday they out played Concordia- Moorhead 2-1 in overtime.
The Norse are a young team this year with only four seniors, but with powerful returners Jeremy Vann ('02), Derek Altofer ('01), Zach Smith ('01), and Josh Korth ('01), the combination of rookie and veteran players has proven successful so far.
The team also has several freshmen that have potential to be a driving force in Luther's on-going tradition of excellence. Cameron Pope, Tim Stork, and Brian Korth have all seen playing time in the last few games.
Senior Josh Korth stated, "We're starting to gel as a team and play as one as well. I'd say that the level of play has kept at a constant and can only get better. We're playing well, so I have to be happy about that."
Upcoming games are Sept. 23 against Wartburg and Sept. 24 against Macalester.
