Logotypes are usually small, commonly used words a such as the, for, and, of and to a that are designed as a unit. Like ligatures, logotypes are treated as a single character by your application (and are usually accessed with one keystroke or keystroke combination). These characters include such typographic niceties as a smarta quotes and apostrophes, en and em dashes, and bullets. These characters and others like them are not always encoded or translated consistently from one email program to another. The solution is simple: play it safe and stick to the standard keyboard characters (see illustration). Signatures and Attachments Other points of good email etiquette include using a signature and being savvy about attachments. Usually used for business, signatures can be a great time-saver if you use them appropriately. Remember to include your signature in each subsequent email to the same recipient so no one has to search for the email with your phone number.
